I have always thought of back matter as a way to include extra information about the book’s subject. However, backmatter is only one of the options, among many! Reading this blog post was eye-opening. Then, I looked at recent traditionally published picture books and compiled a list with examples. Please let me know if you know of any other type of adding information to non-fiction books.

 

 

Different font sizes/ font colors

• Text of She Leads: The Elephant Matriarch (2020) by June Smalls and Yumi Shimokawara has two different fonts.

 

 

• Another example is Diving Deep : Using Machines to Explore the Ocean (2022) by Michelle Cusolito and Nicole Wong.
